Choose Your Illusion
It's all about perspective! Three types of optical illusions engraved on the exterior of this kaleidoscope framed by hand drawn & twisted columns that appear to spiral as you turn to the next illusion. First up, conflicting perspectives create a perpetual motion machine from M. C. Escher's Waterfall. Spinning to the next frame, what do you see first when facing Danish psychologist Edgar Rubin's bi-stable Vase? Third but never last, an anamorphic skull from Hans Holbein's The Ambassadors becomes unobscured when viewed from an extreme angle - death smiles back.
Look through the hand cut glass to see loose a tourmaline, emerald, sapphire, garnet & tanzanite create unique mirrored patterns as you rotate the kaleidoscope. Turn the inverted smoky quartz crystal top to move the light reflections within. A hand tied red rayon tassel hangs on the sliding bail that you can slip onto a charm holder, chain or chatelaine of your choice. Handmade in solid sterling silver by Morgaine Faye.
An entry in Squint Games! The 9th Fiat Lux Annual Maker's Competition. 12 of the world’s most interesting small-batch jewelry makers submitted pieces featuring optical illusions. Learn more here.
