Everything You Need to Know About Labret Piercings

Fiat Lux Fit Philosophy

We offer labrets in multiple gauges and lengths because comfort is not a compromise — it’s a form of care. Whether you’re freshly pierced, stretching with intention, or simply seeking a piece that sits like a second skin, we’re here to guide you toward the size that feels right. Not just physically, but emotionally.

We honor the architecture of your anatomy, the story of your piercing, and the rebellion of choosing adornment that means something.

anatomy of a labret

Gauge: refers to the thickness of the jewelry. Most earlobe piercings are done at an 18ga (slightly thinner) or 16ga (slightly thicker)

Length: depend on the thickness of the tissue and how well healed the piercing is. A fresh piercing usually requires a longer labret post.

Decorative End: in simple terms, this is the pretty part! Made in solid gold, showcases a variety of shapes, textures and styles.

Pin: come in threaded or threadless to attach labret and decorative end

Thickness of the Post

gauge

18G (1.0mm)

  • More common for healed piercings
  • Suitable for earlobes, nostril, and forward helix piercings

16G (1.2mm)

  • Ideal for initial piercings and everyday wear
  • Suitable for most ear cartilage, oral piercing, and very old ear earlobe piercings

14G (1.6mm)

  • Common in more stretched cartilage
  • Slightly thicker than 16G, offering more durability

Length

Initial Piercing: 8mm–10mm (5/16"–3/8")

  • Allows space for swelling, cleaning, and movement
  • Prevents pressure that can cause irritation or embedding
  • Tip: always start longer — your body needs room to settle

Healed Piercing: 6mm–8mm (1/4"–5/16")

  • Sits flush against the skin for comfort and style
  • Reduces snagging, shifting, and unnecessary movement
  • Tip: downsizing too early can cause irritation — wait until swelling is fully gone

Anatomy Matters

  • Thicker lobes or lips may need longer posts
  • We recommend always to consult with your piercer to define best choice for you

threaded vs. threadless

pin

Threaded Labrets

  • Great for bold, heavy, or legacy pieces
  • How it works: the decorative end has a tiny screw that threads into the post
  • Secure hold — won’t pop off easily

Threadless Labrets

  • Perfect for comfort, minimalism, and modern fit
  • How it works: the decorative end has a small pin that inserts into the post
  • Sleek, minimal, and easy to insert
